My Move to Germany

Moving to Germany for 6 months has been quite the journey, blending both challenge and reward in equal measure. Adjusting to a new culture, lifestyle, and language had its daunting moments at first. Thankfully, with work kicking off swiftly upon my arrival and the warm support of my roommates, coworkers, and family, settling into life in Munich became more manageable by the day.

The initial weeks were a little slow, with the flurry of onboarding tasks and admin work, but they provided an invaluable opportunity to get to know my team better. At Logistics Robotics, the interns and PhD students hail from all corners of the globe, offering a valuable collection of insights and experiences. While my focus revolved around creating a video animation showcasing BMW's future manufacturing workflow, I also jumped into smaller projects with fellow interns, eager to lend a hand wherever needed. The innovative work happening behind the scenes at BMW is truly impressive, and I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing those ideas come to fruition.

When I first received my assignment, a mix of nerves and excitement washed over me. Doubts lingered initially, unsure if I was the right fit for the role. But as I delved deeper into the work, my passion for the industry shone through, overriding any initial apprehensions.

So far throughout the internship, I've had the opportunity to broaden a lot of my 3D modelling, animating, and texturing skills, which I have been extremely thankful for. I am so happy to see the improvement in both my confidence and abilities surrounding these skills since arriving in Munich and can’t wait to apply what I’ve learned during my time here to my own projects and studies at home.

Although I haven’t had the opportunity to do too much travel as of this moment, I’m eagerly awaiting my trip to visit Belgium and the Netherlands, where I look forward to seeing my family and friends and experiencing the beautiful cultures that reside there. However, for a trip within Germany, I would recommend visiting Eibsee Lake just next to the Zugspitze (the highest peak in Germany). It’s a beautiful lake destination, right on the border between Germany and Austria.

Just make sure you brush up on your table soccer skills before getting here. It is the social centre of the office, and you’ll definitely stand out from the rest if you can show off your skills to the other interns!”
