THE BMW M8

QUT’s very own high-performance luxury vehicle for design research and teaching

THE M8 COMPETITION COUPÉ

QUT is the proud custodian of a BMW M8 Competition Coupé, gifted by BMW in Germany. The M8 is a great example of so many design disciplines, technologies and processes in the one machine, making it a valuable resource for learning, understanding and applying many different areas of design and technology.

The M8 Competition is a high-performance luxury vehicle, and one of BMW’s most powerful — featuring a 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 engine capable of 0-100km/h in just 3 seconds. Our particular M8 is finished in Black Sapphire Metallic and features the optional M Sport Carbon bucket seats.

PROJECTS

Post-graduate researchers are using the car to investigate topics including human-machine interfaces and emerging interactive technologies. QUT under-graduate design students use the M8 for inspiration, learning and prototyping through workshops, class visits and hands on studies. These areas include materials and manufacturing, aesthetics and visualisation, ergonomics, interfaces and interactions, plus the application of emerging technologies.
