My BMW Internship in Munich

In the past few months, I’ve had the privilege to fully immerse myself in European culture. Admittedly, my initial weeks in Munich were a mix of excitement and stress. However, once the necessary tasks like sorting out accommodation, registering my address, and obtaining my residency permit were done and dusted, I was able to fully embrace the beauty of Munich. Whether it was embarking on weekend trips to neighbouring countries or simply exploring the city and its surrounding nature through hikes, being situated at the centre of Europe offered so many travelling opportunities. The ability to travel to another country within a mere two hours still feels crazy to me.

At the BMW Tech Office, I’ve been fortunate to engage in a variety of exciting projects that challenge me daily. Initially, my tasks involved creating LinkedIn posts for SORDI.ai, which introduced me to animation techniques and allowed me to explore software like Blender. This period was followed by a very busy phase when BMW had a booth at Hannover Messe. The QUT Design Academy, Darcy and I had the amazing opportunity to partner with Google for the booth and associated press releases, a truly great experience where we worked on animations and crafted large-scale Bug Droids for the display. Currently, we’re immersed in utilizing VR technology within an Omniverse scene to offer immersive insights into the inner workings of the BMW plant. My skills with tools such as Blender, Omniverse, Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop has significantly improved, enabling me to contribute across various projects, from animations to marketing materials.

Beyond the projects themselves, the people at the BMW Tech Office have made this experience truly exceptional. The welcoming and supportive atmosphere has allowed me to form friendships with people from all around the world. I’ve even had the opportunity to travel to other countries with fellow interns from Lebanon. I think it’s safe to say that on this internship I expected to learn lots of German, although yes I did learn some German, I definitely learnt a lot more Lebanese.

Looking ahead to the remainder of my internship, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the journey ahead. I am eager to continue expanding my horizons, both personally and professionally. I am so grateful to the TechOffice and the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy for this life-changing opportunity and I will treasure the memories I have made over here forever.
