In Love with this part of the World

When I first arrived in Munich, I have to admit, I was a little intimidated. Everything from the language to the culture was different from what I was used to. I've never traveled to Europe, never moved more than 150km from my home town. Now that I'm 16,000km away from little old Brisbane, it's as if I need to learn to walk again. The tomatoes taste different, the trains move quicker and the people are little bit grumpier.

Starting my internship at Idealworks was both exciting and nerve-wracking. I was stepping into a new role in a new country, and I didn't know what to expect. Coming from a small studio in Yeerongpilly of 7 people to a company of 80 plus has been the biggest noticeable change to how I work. It's both great having so many people work to a single goal and also frustrating as things that one could do on a whim in a small company now requires a greater deal of thought and care. It's amazing to see how things are run at this scale and with the support of my colleagues, I have been able to quickly adapt and navigate the company culture, learning the ropes.

But it's not all work and no play here in Munich. The natural beauty of the city is what has kept me here, and it continues to take my breath away. The mountains are just a quick train ride away, and the hiking opportunities are unparalleled. This is where I have fallen in love with this part of the world. Pictured is Ben, Hsuan, my coworker Sai and I up the side of a mountain in Tegernsee, the first time I've seen snow in person.

The arts here has also inspired me greatly in my practice. The great museums available here to the public from the grand Haus der Kunst to small independent studios has shown that there is a lot happening here under the skin of this city. I've been fortunate enough to become friends with people in this industry already which has opened many doors in the scene.

All in all, my time thus far here in Munich has been a true adventure. It's been a chance to explore a new part of the world, to challenge myself professionally, and to discover new passions and interests. I feel incredibly grateful to be here, and I'm excited to see what the future holds. Whether it's trying new foods, exploring new neighborhoods, or taking on new projects at work, I'm ready for whatever comes next.
