Expanding my Passion for Design and Engineering

Hi, my name is Emily and I’m thrilled to be doing a Mechanical Engineering internship with BMW Group in Munich this year. For the past 3 months I have been working as a ‘Robotics Safety and Hardware Development’ intern within Idealworks and have had an incredible experience so far.

Working in this role has given me the opportunity to apply my passion for design and engineering to a wide range of tasks which has allowed me to diversify and further develop my skillset. One of the things I have enjoyed in my internship so far is that no two days are the same. My responsibilities have ranged from designing safety fields for the autonomous robot, to designing and prototyping new tools, to performing tests on the robots in the warehouse. Working under the guidance and leadership of a great mentor has been incredibly inspiring and given me the opportunity to deepen my understanding of the world of engineering, while being supported by an incredibly talented team.

Outside of work, it has been great exploring the city of Munich. From the snowy mountains, car museums, Bavarian festivals, and everything in between, it has been a lot of fun immersing myself in German culture. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to be part of the BMW Group internship program and can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store.
