Halfway through my internship!
As of writing this, I am just about halfway through my internship, having completed three months with another three to go. It has been an interesting time, offering me opportunities to work on a variety of different projects and learn skills I would never have encountered without this BMW internship. I'm fortunate that my work involves an evolving project with numerous steps requiring vastly different skills. Additionally, I often receive miscellaneous tasks from other supervisors and staff at BMW who need creative work done.
At this point, the novelty of being in Germany and working for BMW has worn off a bit. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it has allowed me to enjoy my routine and feel much more comfortable in this new culture and country. I've met many wonderful people here, including my fellow QUT interns and other interns at BMW, who have created a great, friendly, and welcoming culture.
I'm looking forward to working alongside my fellow QUT interns back home in Brisbane, and I hope to stay in touch with the amazing interns I've met from all over the world during my time here. As I approach the latter half of my internship, it's comforting to know that I'll be returning home in a few months to a more familiar language and surroundings. I'm also excited about the holidays I have planned towards the end of my internship, where I'll get to visit surrounding countries and hike in the Alps around Germany and Austria.
Reflecting on the start of my internship and my time here, I'm glad I took this opportunity to live and work in a foreign country, despite the stress and challenges I faced early on. Although there were some difficult and painful moments at the beginning, it has been much smoother since then. The time spent here with my colleagues has been incredible, and while I'm enjoying my experience, I also look forward to returning to the comfort of my home in Australia and reuniting with my friends and family.
