Academy wins National Award of Merit for Digitalisation for Sustainability
2023, August
Last week the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy won an Award of Merit in the Interact Category for their project Digitalisation for Sustainability as part of Design Institute of Australia Designers Australia Awards 2023. The Designers Australia Awards, a first for the industry, identify Australia's preeminent designers and studios, calling attention to the individual/s and their design processes as much as the outcome. The Interact Category focuses on what or who we interact with (e.g Graphic Design, Exhibition Design, Digital Media, Visual Communications, Digital Experience, Game Design) and may address ethical design, accessibility to all, integration of AI, cross-platform experience, application of Internet of Things (IOT), among other aspects of design.
Over the years the Academy has helped BMW Group and idealworks transform the automotive manufacturing industry through a digitalisation project called BMW iFACTORY. The iFACTORY aims to completely revolutionise automotive manufacturing for the future. It tackles the complex challenges of automotive production and will set new standards in sustainability and competitiveness with flexible, efficient, green and digital manufacturing technologies. We have contributed to this ambitious goal across various digital-based projects including 3D Asset Creation, SORDI, Green Physics AI, and Point Cloud AI Pipeline. We have applied advanced design skills, developed bespoke digital workflows, utilised AI capabilities, and sophisticated visualisation techniques to generate effective outcomes for BMW Group that positively contribute to the iFACTORY strategy.
Congrats to the entire team including Design Associate Jordan Domjahn and Junior Design Associates Epi Pereira and Tim LIm for their incredible contributions to the project over the years. Also thanks to the incredible support from Jimmy Nassif and Dylan Sheppard (idealworks) and Marc Kamradt (BMW Group TechOffice). We are now in the running to win the overall National Award, which will be announced on November 2 in Sydney.
