Learning New Skills

I started the internship on a project for BMW TechOffice Munich. The task required to create an exhibition booth design for their AI called SORDI.ai. Having no prior knowledge on SORDI, it was quite intriguing to learn about its ability and how it helps around the BMW factory. We were then tasked to conceptualise some touchpoints around the booth. Three concepts were put forward, out of which, one was chosen to develop further. It was interesting to see how the university really prepares students well for the concept development process, as it runs very similarly way in a real-world process.

I did not have enough prior knowledge on some of the design software required for the project. However, I got to learn about a lot of different softwares through my time at the Academy. By the end of my internship, I was able to pick up on some softwares like Blender, Substance 3D Painter and After Effects. Although I am still a beginner on these softwares, I am really grateful to have this foundation as it will really help me carry forward and develop my skills further.

A challenge for me was balancing between university and the internship. However, I was able to organize myself well by staying on task which helped me complete my assignments on time. Overall, it was a very interesting project to get to work on. It gave me a great insight into a real-world BMW project. It was great to see how the knowledge learnt in class can be easily implemented into a real-world application. And finally, I would like to take away all the skills I have gained in the last couple of months and implement them into my own design work.
