Designing an International BMW App

Over the course of 100 hours this semester, I completed a BMW Group + QUT Design Academy internship. My project focused around redesigning and modernising a backend mobile app which is used internationally by BMW Group staff. To complete this project, it required the analysis of the existing app to identify problems and opportunities which we could improve. Following this, we researched existing mobile apps, developed primary research through surveys and interviews with key users, and collaborated with our BMW team in Germany. After identifying our key users and their needs, we produced over 800 variations of mock-ups until we had our final working concept. This concept was presented to colleagues at BMW in Germany, as well as the team at QUT.

Overall, the internship was fantastic as I got to experience a workplace where everyone was a skilled designer that would be happy to take the time to teach you, which is very uncommon for internships. I developed a lot of skills for working in a team and how to communicate as one. I know people who study Industrial Design just to get into the Academy internship, so I feel very privileged to be one of those selected people.
